COLLEGE: ACC eyes Garden for tournament

The ACC is “thoroughly investigating” Madison Square Garden as a site for its postseason basketball tournament, though the new Big East Conference has a 12-year deal through 2026, ESPN reported.

Sources said MSG can get out of that deal before 2026 if the new Big East doesn’t reach certain benchmarks, opening the door for the ACC. Besides the Garden, the ACC also has had discussions with Barclays Center, a source said.

MLB: Phillies sign Carlos Zambrano

Carlos Zambrano agreed to a minor league contract with the Phillies and will report this week to Clearwater, Fla., for extended spring training. Zambrano, 31, is 132-91 with a 3.66 ERA, including 11 seasons with the Cubs. He was 16-17 with a 4.66 ERA the last two years.

Rays lefty David Price (1-4) will have an MRI exam today after leaving last night’s 9-2 loss to the Red Sox in the third inning with a strained left triceps.

Soccer: Chelsea wins Europa League Final

A 93rd-minute header from Branislav Ivanovic gave Chelsea a stunning 2-1 victory over Benfica in the Europa League final as they claimed the trophy for the first time in heart-stopping fashion. Chelsea became the first team to simultaneously hold the Champions League and Europa League titles.

ETC.: NBA’s Kings to stay in Sacramento

NBA owners voted to reject the Kings’ proposed move to Seattle. The 22-8 vote followed a recommendation made last month by the NBA’s relocation committee. A group led by investor Chris Hansen had a deal to buy the team, move it to Seattle and rename the SuperSonics. The original Sonics moved to Oklahoma City in 2008 were renamed the Thunder.

A trial date of Aug. 8 was set for former NBA star Chris Gatling, accused of squatting in a Paradise Valley (Ariz.) home and then trying to list the place for rent on Craigslist.

Andy Murray is doubtful for the French Open, which begins May 26, after suffering a lower back injury that forced him to retire from the Italian Open yesterday.
