Cops ID teen girl struck, killed by car in Bronx

Police today identified a teen girl struck by a car and killed in Mount Eden, authorities said.

Zuleimi Torres, 16, was crossing the Grand Concourse with her friend, 16, about 3:35 p.m. Friday near Mt. Eden Parkway when the two were hit by a Chevy SUV, authorities said.

EMS rushed them to St. Barnabas Hospital, but Torres suffered a brain injury and could not be saved. The other girl is expected to survive.

A 51-year-old woman was also struck, and was listed in stable condition at Lincoln Hospital.

Cops initially took the driver into custody. But he passed a blood alcohol test is not suspected of crime, said police sources.

A medical condition may have contributed to the accident, and the investigation continues, sources added.

Torres was a popular 11th-grader at the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula in the Bronx, and well liked by her classmates, according to her friends.

“Zuleimi always thought of others and of leaving a wonderful impression,” said friend Eddin Martinez, 18. “Her cheery personality really touched a lot of her classmates, and they’re going to miss her very much.”

Friends also said that Torres volunteered at a community program at Cardinal Hayes High School in the South Bronx, working with mentally ill and disabled adults.
