Former Yankees have random meet in middle of nowhere

Don Larsen didn’t have to wait until June 23 and Old-Timer’s Day to catch up with a fellow former Yankee.

Larsen, 83, who plans to attend Old-Timer’s Day, felt well enough after breaking a hip on New Year’s Eve to drive from his Idaho home to California recently.

According to Andrew Levy of Wish You Were Here Productions which represents Larsen, Larsen and his wife Corrine were driving from Idaho to Sacramento and decided to stop and stretch.

“It was a remote stop with nobody there, but there was Pat Kelly, his wife Rebecca and their two children who were traveling from L.A. to San Francisco,’’ Levy said.

Larsen’s Yankees career that lasted from 1955-59 had a little more flare to it than Kelly’s, thanks to Larsen throwing a perfect game in Game 5 of the 1956 World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Kelly, who works for the Dodgers as a Pacific Rim scout, played second base for the Yankees from 1991-97 and was part of the 1996 World Series champions.
