Sex offender in daytime ‘attack’ on woman in elevator

Suspect Elvis McKenzie

A convicted sex offender with a violent background allegedly tried to sexually abuse a woman in broad daylight inside a Queens building elevator, cops said.

The suspect identified by police as Elvis McKenzie,27, allegedly punched the 57-year-old woman in the face before the attempted sex abuse on June 2 at 11:30 a.m. in Astoria, cops said.

He fled the scene. But cops are actively searching for the culprit.

The victim was treated at an area hospital and was later released.

McKenzie served three years in state prison after he sexually abused a 26-year-old woman in White Plains where he was arrested in 2007, public records show.

In May 2012 McKenzie and a couple of his pals allegedly sliced a man’s throat with a box cutter and stole his property, police sources said.

He was charged with gang assault, robbery, and assault with intent to cause serious injury in that case, cops said.

He allegedly punched a correction officer in the face at Riker’s Island in August 2012, the sources added.

His prior arrest history also includes jumping a turnstile, possession of a stolen credit card, and criminal possession of stolen property, cops said.

He is 6-foot-4 and has a recognizable scar on his left arm.
