Workers injured following massive explosions at Florida propane plant

Explosions rocked a central Florida propane plant last night, injuring numerous employees and sending flames shooting into the night sky.

The explosions began about 11 p.m. at Blue Rhino, a gas plant in Tavares, Lake County, about 40 miles northwest of Orlando.

In an early-morning news conference, Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman John Herrell said all of the plant’s employees – about 25 of them – are accounted for, a welcome development after dozens of workers were initially feared dead.

At least seven people were injured, Herrell said. Three of the workers are hospitalized in critical condition.

Flames billowed following the explosion, fueled by tanks typically used for barbecues. The flames were visible more than five miles away.
