Ex-Microsoft CFO will join WME

Former Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Peter Klein is set to take the same position with the new William Morris Endeavor-IMG Worldwide, the company said Monday.

While IMG, a sports, fashion and media agency, is being swallowed by the Hollywood talent shop and its private-equity partner, Silver Lake, the deal won’t close until a host of foreign governments give it the OK.

Those approvals aren’t expected to happen for four to six months.

The 49-year-old executive, who has been at Microsoft since 2002, has a history with Silver Lake.

He helped the Menlo Park, Calif., firm cement a huge profit when Microsoft acquired Skype for $8.5 billion in 2011.

Silver Lake and the rest of Skype’s owners shared a profit of about $5 billion on the deal, according to reports at the time.

A technology-focused firm with about $20 billion in assets, Silver Lake had acquired Skype from eBay for just over $2 billion in cash and loans just 18 months earlier.
