Woman sues Southwest for injuries after plane skidded across tarmac

A South Carolina woman who was a passenger on a Southwest Airline plane that skidded across a La Guardia runway during a landing last month blames jet’s crew for her injuries in a new lawsuit.

Jacqueline Young, 48, was a passenger on a flight from Nashville, Tennessee to LaGuardia on July 22 when the Boeing 737-700 aircraft struck the runway nose first.

Young claims she suffered “serious and permanent injuries to her limbs and body” because of the negligent operation of the plane.

According to earlier reports, the National Transportation Safety Board found the landing gear “collapsed rearward and upward into the fuselage, damaging the electronics bay that houses avionics.”

Young’s complaint may be the first lawsuit filed against the airline, her attorney Sanford Rubenstein said in a statement.
