Today

CARIBBEAN GROOVE: Save those frequent flier miles and have an island experience close to home. This month’s installment of the Target First Saturday series at the Brooklyn Museum explores “Caribbean themes” with performances from calypso band Casplash, Haitian fusion band Zing Experience, dance workshops and more. Ages 5 and up. 5 p.m., free. Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway at Washington Avenue; 718-638-5000, brooklynmuseum.org

JUMP AROUND: Nothing says summer in the city like a block party, and Brooklyn’s Fifth Annual Children’s Festival is one of the best. Between the bouncy castle, games, raffles and free dental screenings (yup, you read that right) you’re sure to get your fill of street fair fun. Ages 3 and up. 11 a.m., free. St. Andrew’s Playground, Atlantic Avenue between St. Andrews Place and Kingston Avenue; nycgovparks.org

HOOP DREAMS: Both experienced dribblers and novice dunkers are welcome at Central Park’s free Girls Basketball Clinic, where players ages 9 to 17 are guaranteed lots of noncompetitive time on the court. Call to register. 10 a.m., free. North Meadow Recreation Center, 97th Street and Central Park West; 212-348-4867, centralparknyc.org

TOMORROW

JUST SAY ‘ARGH’: No pencils required for “Pirate School,” a one-man vaudeville show by NYC’s own David Engel featuring plenty of pirate lingo, sea shanties and more. 1 p.m., $15 for adults, $12 for kids. Red Hook Waterfront Museum, 290 Conover St. at Pier 44, Brooklyn; 877-238-5596, waterfrontmuseum.org

BUG OUT: Conquer your fear of creepy crawlies at “Kids Insect Exploration” in Pelham Bay Park, where Urban Park Rangers will show families how to discover and identify borough-centric bugs. 11 a.m., free. Bruckner Boulevard and Wilkinson Avenue, The Bronx; nycgovparks.org
