Bill Clinton says he and Hillary won’t get within ‘a hundred miles’ of NYC mayor’s race

Bubba doesn’t want to touch the NYC mayoral race with a 100-foot poll.

Bill Clinton says he and Hillary don’t intend to get within “a hundred miles” of the New York City mayor’s race, using the excuse that they have too many friends who are candidates.

“We are a hundred miles from that race and everyone understands that we are not going to be involved as long as our personal friends and people whom we feel obligations are involved,” Clinton told CNN while in Rwanda for the Clinton family foundation..

“Not because it’s a political campaign, because neither Hillary or I was ever involved in the political campaign,” Clinton said. “And they understood that from the beginning.”

Huma Abedin, the wife of mayoral contender Anthony Weiner, is a longtime aide to Hillary Clinton who drew on her connections to marshal support for her husband’s campaign.

Asked immediately after the Sydney Leathers sexting scandal broke whether he would quit if asked by the former president and secretary of state, Weiner said he was “not terribly interested in what people who are not voters in the city of New York have to say.” The Clintons live in Westchester County. He later clarified that he had “enormous respect for the Clintons.”

The Clintons have been keeping as far away as possible from Weiner. In mentioning the friends they have in the mayor’s race, Clinton singled out Public Advocate Bill deBlasio and businessman John Catsimatidis, who is running on the GOP line. Clinton did not mention Weiner.
