Lovebirds in whirl of their own

WASHINGTON — Capping a whirlwind day, the president and first lady danced the first dance of his second term last night, as they partied the evening away at a pair of inaugural balls.

“I’m just lucky to have her,” the president said, taking the stage at the Commander-in-Chief’s Ball for members of the armed services at the Washington Convention Center just before 9 p.m. “She inspires me every day. She makes me a better man and a better president.”

The president’s “first date” swept onto the dance floor and into his arms as Jennifer Hudson belted out Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” an Obama favorite.

The first lady looked ravishing as she swayed to the music — she and Obama sweetly singing to each other — in a sleek red velvet-and-chiffon Jason Wu gown, Jimmy Choo shoes and a diamond-embellished ring by Kimberly McDonald.

After their dance, Michelle tweeted “@FLOTUS Just danced to“Let’s Stay Together” with the love of my life and the President of the United States. I’m so proud of Barack. –mo”

After the military ball, the Obamas hit the official Inaugural Ball, a massive event spread out over two floors and several rooms of the convention center.

Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Brad Paisley and several others entertained revelers.

The Obamas called it an early night, heading back to the White House at around 10 p.m.
