Jeter still has ‘butterflies’ for last home opener

Derek Jeter admitted to having some nerves before Monday’s home opener at Yankee Stadium, the last one of his fabled career.

“Of course, I just hide it,” Jeter said. “You’re human. Everyone’s human. Everyone has emotions, especially here — you play in so many big games.”

Jeter figures to have to battle those emotions on a daily basis this season, something he’s been adept at over his career.

“I’ll be nervous, I’ll have butterflies before this game starts,” Jeter said. “I’ve been pretty good at trying to control my emotions. … It’s always easier to play if you try to control your emotions.”
