Cops shoot SI ‘burglar’

Cops shot an armed burglary suspect in Staten Island after the gunman pointed his weapon at them, law-enforcement sources said yesterday.

Two officers found 28-year-old Michael Walker matching the description of a robbery suspect at Castleton and Treadwell avenues in Richmond Terrace when he allegedly turned and pointed his 9mm Smith and Wesson at them at around 11:25 p.m. Saturday, sources said.

Both officers each fired once, sources said.

Walker was struck once in the torso. He was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

Sources could not confirm witness reports that Walker was shot in the back, although they said bystanders may have seen an exit wound.

Cops said they recovered Walker’s firearm at the scene.

The suspect is in police custody in the hospital, but no charges had been filed yet. He has at least 12 prior arrests, including for robbery, assault, drug possession and weapon possession, the sources said.

One of the officers involved in the shooting is 30 years old with eight years on the job.

The other is 29 years old with nine years on the force.
