David Wilson faces final health hurdle

All that is standing in the way of David Wilson and full medical clearance is, in his words, “pictures.’’

The Giants running back faces a moment of truth Wednesday when he undergoes a new MRI of his surgically repaired neck to determine if the vertebrae fusion has fully healed.

There have been no setbacks for Wilson since the Jan. 16 surgery and he looks to be in prime shape. He’s participating in the organized team activity practices but is held out of all team drills, as he is not yet cleared for contact. A positive MRI is the next and final hurdle for Wilson, who was limited to five games last season. The 2012 first-round draft pick insists he has never experienced any pain since suffering the injury last October against the Eagles.

The Giants have bolstered their backfield with the signing of veteran Rashad Jennings and they selected Andre Williams out of Boston College in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. Wilson would provide a cut-on-a-dime back with breakaway speed and kickoff return ability, although he has had problems with ball security in his first two years.
