Bruins stay red hot

Patrice Bergeron scored the go-ahead goal on a third-period power play to lead the Bruins to a 3-1 victory over the Sabres last night in Buffalo.

The Bruins (8-1-1) are off to the team’s best start to a season by earning 17 points in their first 10 games. The team’s previous best was 16 points through 10 games, set four times, the last in 1978-79, when it opened 7-1-2.

In Columbus, Magnus Paajarvi scored a go-ahead short-handed goal with 3:10 remaining and Devan Dubnyk made 39 saves as Edmonton snapped a five-game losing streak.

In Detroit, Jonathan Ericsson scored with five seconds left, less than a minute after Kyle Clifford had tied the game for Los Angeles.
