Port Authority cops hailed as heroes for saving woman after bridge jump

Two Port Authority cops were lauded for heroism by the State Senate today for saving the life of a woman who jumped from the Whitestone Bridge last month.

PAPD Officers Frank Misa, a 10-year veteran, and Mitchell Richter, who has served for six years, were on a PAPD boat near LaGuardia Airport conducting anti-terrorism patrols on Feb. 7 when they responded to a report of a woman attempting to jump from the bridge.

Shortly thereafter, the pair spotted the distraught woman in the icy waters on the Queens side of the bridge and quickly plucked her from the currents before administering the first aid that saved her life.

Sen. Jeffrey D. Klein read a resolution at a ceremony that commended the duo for having “displayed exemplary professionalism in the performance of their duties.”
