Real-life ‘Romeo Killer’ loses appeal to stop TV movie

Convicted killer Chris Porco yesterday lost in his bid to stop Lifetime from airing a movie based on his case.

Romeo Killer: The Chris Porco Story,” will air tomorrow night, as scheduled, after Lifetime convinced a New York State Appellate Court judge to reverse an unusual restraining order that would have prevented it from airing the movie starring Eric McCormack (“Will & Grace”) as a cop who nails Porco.

Porco, 29, was convicted in 2006 of attacking his parents while they slept in their upstate home — killing his father with an ax and badly disfiguring his mother, who subsequently retracted her story and refused to testify against her son.

Porco — who has been pressing his case against Lifetime from a jail cell and without a lawyer — argued his case in court in Albany yesterday via speakerphone from Danemora prison, where he’s serving 46 years to life. The inmate argued that Lifetime’s movie was an illegal invasion of his privacy because he had not given permission.

Lifetime trumpeted its victory in a press release touting the “Highly anticipated original movie Chris Porco doesn’t want you to see.”

In addition to McCormack, the movie stars Matt Barr (“Hatfields & McCoys”) as Porco and Lolita Davidovich as his mother, Joan.
