NYT alters DC bureau staff

The New York Times said Political Editor Carolyn Ryan will become its Washington, DC, bureau chief effective Dec. 15 and announced two new journalism ventures in preparation for the 2014 election cycle Wednesday.

The Times said current DC bureau chief David Leonhardt will become managing editor of one of the new ventures, details of which it said are forthcoming.

DC bureau deputy Carl Hulse will be managing editor of a new daily news tip sheet.

Both ventures launch next year.
