Sandy’s WTC hit

Hurricane Sandy caused more than $185 million worth of damage to the World Trade Center site, Port Authority officials said yesterday.

Board members authorized the agency to spend an extra $60 million for repairs.

The funds will go to pay for damages to the 9/11 museum, which was filled with about seven feet of water during the storm.

Floodwaters on the night of Oct. 29 gushed across the West Side Highway and poured through the memorial site, filling garages and basements with a contaminated witch’s brew.

The ventilation system that controls air in the underground PATH station escaped serious damage.

All of the expenses are expected to be covered by insurance, officials said.

Agency-wide damages from the storm total $2 billion.

Meanwhile, PA officials said that 1 WTC’s observation-deck elevators will be among the fastest in the world, ascending the 102nd floor in just 60 seconds.
