New ratings low as ‘Idol’ loses to ‘Modern Family’

Another week, another “American Idol” ratings low.

After making history by falling below the 2.0 threshold in the 18-49 demo last Thursday, the Fox reality show on Wednesday drew fewer viewers than both “Modern Family” and “Survivor” — a first for “Idol.”

The two-hour “Idol” episode averaged 9.3 million viewers, below both “Modern Family” (10.1 million viewers) at 9 p.m. and “Survivor” (9.8 million viewers) at 8 p.m.

While “Idol” recovered in the “money” demo to a 2.2 rating, “Survivor” also squeaked by it with a 2.3 rating and “Modern Family” was out front as usual with a 3.6 rating for its Vegas-set episode.

The veteran Fox show has failed to stem sliding ratings in its 13th season despite the new judging panel of Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr.
