The Giants could face Ben Roethlisberger, Andrew Luck and possibly Tom Brady this summer, which should help determine if their defense is improved from the ghastly 2012 meltdown.
It will be an all-AFC preseason schedule for the Giants, who will face the Steelers, Colts, Jets and Patriots, four opponents they will not play in the regular season.
The highlight could be a nationally-televised home game against Luck and the Colts on Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. at MetLife Stadium. It is the first time since 1984 — the year the Colts moved from Baltimore — they will meet the Giants in the preseason.
The Giants open up their four-game preseason schedule against the Steelers at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh in preseason Week 1 (Aug. 8-11). The dates and times for most preseason games will be announced at a future date.
After the game against the Colts, the Giants and Jets will meet during preseason Week 3 (Aug. 22-25) for the 45th consecutive summer since the series began in 1969. A year ago, the Giants dominated the Jets 26-3.
In the preseason finale (Aug. 29-30) the Giants will travel to New England to face the Patriots, marking the ninth consecutive year those two teams will close the preseason against each other, in a game usually played by backups.
The Giants are 18-18 in the preseason in Tom Coughlin’s nine years as head coach.
* Coughlin spent nearly two hours yesterday afternoon taping “CenterStage” with host Michael Kay, a show that will air June 4 on YES.
Coughlin revealed there are times when he argues with the GPS in his car because “The lady in the GPS is not always right!’’
Coughlin also said he believes the Giants would have won a second straight Super Bowl in 2008 if Plaxico Burress did not shoot himself in the foot.
“We were the best team,’’ he said.
After the show, Coughlin received a standing ovation from the studio audience.
“Even Derek Jeter didn’t get a standing ovation,’’ Kay said.
