Giants sign OL Charles Brown

Tom Coughlin wasn’t kidding when he said the Giants were determined to get bigger along their offensive line this offseason.

Big Blue added yet another big blocker Tuesday, signing 6-foot-5, 300-pound former Saints left tackle Charles Brown to a one-year deal.

Brown, a second-round pick by New Orleans in 2010, is the fourth offensive lineman signed by the Giants since the start of free agency. He joins guard Geoff Schwartz (Chiefs), center J.D. Walton (Redskins) and guard-tackle John Jerry (Dolphins).

Brown also is the 12th veteran free agent signed by the Giants the past three weeks, and his signing came days after co-owner John Mara had said the team was “pretty much done” with veteran free-agency moves.

Coughlin said at the NFL owners meetings last week the Giants wanted to add beef up front under new offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo because Coughlin felt they were too small last season.

Brown certainly fits the profile as the Giants’ four blocking additions weigh in at an average of 6-5, 320 pounds. Brown is likely to be a backup, though, after losing his starting job at tackle with the Saints to a rookie (Terron Armstead) late last season.
