It’s the question you’re not suppose to ask in polite company — how much do you make?
Now, thanks to statistics compiled by New York state Department of Labor, you don’t have to ask. The agency surveyed thousands of city workers to learn average and median incomes.
Facial surgeons clocked in with the highest average annual salary of any profession in the Big Apple at $261,820. CEOs were a close second at $226,880.
Shampooers were the least paid of the 682 professions tracked by the agency last year — pulling in a paltry $18,350. Manicurists and pedicurists weren’t far behind, at $19,050.
Overall, New York City residents made more than people in other parts of the state. The median 2013 income for workers in the five boroughs was $45,970 — 14 percent more than the statewide median of $40,390.
The data was gathered from 57,000 employers around the state, said Labor Department spokesman Jim Brown. “It’s the exact opposite of a random sample. It’s meant to be comprehensive and representative.”
