This week’s couple: One night only

Dating for some is a sport in which the more you play, the better your chances at finding the one for you. So who can blame Allison, 24, for still following through on her date plans with Ryan, 23? Even though she had gone out the night before with someone she really likes, she still met Ryan at Heath at the McKittrick Hotel in the Meatpacking District. Was she able to focus even though she had someone else on her mind?

She said:

“I approached the date with an open mind…and had a very pleasant time.”

In the spirit of full disclosure, the night before my date with Ryan, I was on a second date with someone I’m pretty crazy about. Consequently, Ryan was not really in the running romantically.

I approached the date with an open mind, though, and had a very pleasant time. Ryan is incredibly kind, polite, and intelligent. As for The Heath, what a unique experience!

The staff is wonderful, and the food is delicious — it’s certainly somewhere I would go with my girlfriends.

Regardless of who else I have been seeing, I don’t believe Ryan was a match for me as anything other than a friend, despite his many wonderful qualities.

He said:

“Allison is perhaps the friendliest person I have met in New York so far.”

Allison arrived a few minutes late, but that was perhaps the only New York stereotype about her. She was tall, very pretty, held herself well and had bold bangs. She was friendly, like absurdly friendly. She is perhaps the friendliest person I have met so far in New York.

The conversation was generic, but it did not feel forced. I loved learning about her experiences as a flight attendant. All in all, Allison was utterly fascinating.

The meal was good. We both tried the cock-a-leekie soup. She had the bay scallops, and I had the Fisherman’s Pie. The meals tried to be creative without overreaching.

As we walked down to our respective trains, the conversation was more lively, I think we bonded more as people. Then I got her number. Alas, there really was no romance, but Allison was a super awesome girl, and I loved chatting with her!
