TRAVELER’S UPDATE

Go north

Alaska comes closer to New York with the Oct. 28 inauguration of Alaska Airlines’ daily nonstop flight from Newark to Seattle, where travelers can make easy connections to destinations not only in the nation’s largest state, but across the Pacific Northwest. Advance fares begin at $139 one-way, based on round-trip purchase; (800) 252-7522, http://www.alaskaair.com.

Honest, Abe

Our 16th president finally has a

place to keep his papers. Like the Gettysburg Address. Or his original copy of the Emancipation Proclamation. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library opens Nov. 18 in Springfield, Ill., as part of a project that will eventually be called the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The museum’s still under construction, but the library will show some of the 46,000 items contained in the late great president’s collection; http://www.alincoln-library.com.

Fly and lie

Business travel across the Pacific gets more comfortable with Japan Airlines’ rollout of flat beds in its Seasons Class this week. Two feet wide, nearly six feet long and reclining to a sleep-inducing 170 degrees, the shell-like seat turns into a comfy bed, complete with a built-in massage feature. The new seats are part of a complete overhaul of business class, which includes bigger personal TVs, complimentary facial moisture masks and loaner PJs; http://www.japanair.com.
