Jets have interest in receivers Rice, Ford: sources

The Jets secured one wide receiver last week when they signed Eric Decker. Now, they are looking for another.

According to sources, the Jets are interested in Seahawks free-agent wide receiver Sidney Rice and Raiders free-agent wideout Jacoby Ford.

Rice, 27, is an intriguing one. The 6-foot-4 receiver is talented when he’s healthy, but health has been an issue. He has struggled with knee injuries for several years, missing the latter part of the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run after tearing his ACL in late October.

The Saints and Seahawks also are interested in signing him, according to NFL Network. Seattle cut him last month to save money against the salary cap.

Jets general manager John Idzik knows Rice from his days in Seattle’s front office. Rice had his most success with the Vikings in 2009 when Brett Favre was his quarterback. He caught 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns.

Ford, 26, is a speedy former track star whose production has not matched his skills. He had only 13 catches for 99 yards last year in Oakland. He can also return kicks.

Jets wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal coached Ford with the Raiders.
