For a little more than $14 million, a fashion designer and his wife just bought the French-style chateau in Connecticut that belonged to the eccentric late copper heiress Huguette Clark.
The asking price on the 52-acre New Canaan estate was originally $32 million. The 22-room mansion, known as Le Beau Chateau, was built in 1937. It boasts nine bedrooms and 11 fireplaces.
However, the 14,266-square-foot home — which sat empty for more than 60 years — will need a gut renovation.
Reed Krakoff, the former head designer at Coach who now has his own fashion line, and his wife, Delphine, an interior decorator, can certainly afford it and are up to the challenge.
They recently sold their Upper East Side town house for $51 million. They also own properties in Paris and East Hampton.
Clark was worth more than $300 million at the time of her death, and her wills — there were two — had been hotly contested. The daughter of a US senator and mogul, she died in 2011 at age 104.
