Bloomberg’s zap on e-bikers

Mayor Bloomberg tried to put the brakes on speedy electric bikes that menace city streets on Friday.

In May, Bloomberg signed a law that bans the e-bikes. But he was hazy when asked about it on his Friday radio show.

Asked if the e-bikes are illegal, the mayor responded, “I think so.”

The issue came up when a caller complained that food deliverers on the fast-moving bikes pose a danger to pedestrians. Hizzoner agreed.

“They go in all directions and you can’t see them coming at you because they don’t have lights,” he said.

“The police would say, ‘Look, we can’t stop everybody for everything. We’ve got more serious things to worry about.’ But you’re right. You can get run down and you can get killed.”

The mayor also suggested that law or no law, e-bike riders will keep on pedaling.

“When you have a technology it’s hard to keep people from using it if it’s attractive,” he said.
