NY SCHOOLS AUS-SOME

The city’s A-through-F school-rating system may be headed Down Under.

Australian officials, seeking greater transparency and accountability in their schools, are turning to Schools Chancellor Joel Klein for advice.

Education Minister Julia Gillard has invited Klein to visit Australia around Thanksgiving to speak about New York’s monumental school-reform effort.

She has hailed the city Department of Education’s ability to boost its lowest-performing students, the accountability elicited by the controversial school-grading system, and attempts to improve teacher quality.
