WHAT’S UP: AFC

These aren’t the 2007 Patriots.

If the 35-13 rout by the Dolphins three weeks ago wasn’t proof enough, then the 30-10 drubbing the Chargers laid on New England this Sunday should cement the idea.

“We’re not the Patriots of last year,” safety Rodney Harrison said. “We have to find different ways of winning.”

Matt Cassel at times look much closer to a quarterback who until recently had not started since high school, and Randy Moss’ interest level does seem to be declining with Tom Brady sidelined for the season.

“We lost the best player in the NFL in Tom Brady,” Harrison said. “But we can’t get caught up in that.

“We’re not going to score 38 points a game. We’re not going to get 25 points in the first half. We’re not that type of team now. We’re going to have get back to scrapping and fighting for every single thing we get.”

The Jets are in great position to capitalize with a schedule that includes the Raiders, Chiefs and Rams over the next four weeks, and what could be a crucial showdown in Buffalo three weeks from now. The Jets are tied with the Patriots at 3-2, one game behind the 4-1 Bills and one game ahead of the 2-3 Dolphins.

Miami had a golden opportunity to join the Jets and Pats at 3-2, but allowed Matt Schaub to drive the Texans 76 yards with 1:45 left in the game, trying to protect a five-point lead.
