BURRESS HAS TESTS ON NECK

The pain in the neck’s pain in the neck won’t go away.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told the media today that mercurial receiver Plaxico Burress missed practice for the second straight day to have tests performed on his injured neck.

“He is very sore, still stiff today,” Coughlin said. “But the reason that all of the tests were made was because he continued to have this stiff neck and issues along those lines.”

Coughlin was assured the test results did not reveal any further damage to the neck area.

“We thought it was down in the [trapezius muscle] where it started from,” Coughlin said. “So we wanted to rule everything out. All I got was … that there was nothing of the nature of any kind of vertebrae or anything like that. It is muscle.”

Burress is almost three weeks removed from a one-game team suspension and four days removed from a sideline shouting match with Coughlin during the Giants’ 29-17 victory over the 49ers last Sunday.

Despite the lingering neck discomfort, Burress is still expected to play when the Giants take on his old team, the Steelers, in Pittsburgh this weekend. Last season, Burress skipped many midweek practices to nurse an ankle injury yet made all 20 starts, including the postseason.
