WHAT’S UP: JETS

Brett Favre got all the headlines when he came to the Jets; so did Tom Brady when he was lost to the Patriots for the season. Heck, even Chad Pennington going to the Dolphins made some waves.

But the least talked about quarterback in the AFC East has been the best so far.

Trent Edwards completed 25-of-30 passes for 261 yards in the Bills 23-14 win over the Chargers on Sunday, putting Buffalo at 5-1.

“With Trent out there I don’t have any worries,” Bills safety Donte Whitner said. “I sit on the bench and drink a little water, a little Gatorade, and I listen for the crowd to cheer a first down.”

Edwards, in his second year out of Stanford, suffered a concussion in the Bills’ previous game two weeks ago, but showed no ill effects against San Diego.

“That is one of the best defenses in football, and we did a great job all day of neutralizing their pass rush and allowing me to go through my reads,” Edwards said. “The most important part was I wasn’t taking hits, and as a quarterback you feel more comfortable throughout the game. The game starts to slow down a little bit when you are not getting knocked down.”

Combine that with Favre and the Jets falling to the Raiders and Gang Green has a big hill to climb to catch the boys from up north.

The Bills are two games clear of the Jets; the two teams have their first of two meetings Nov. 2 in Buffalo. It almost amounts to a must-win if the Jets have a chance to prevail in the AFC East.
