Call it the “Romeo on Crack” defense.
A convicted rapist took the stand in his trial for a Lower East Side sex-attack spree yesterday, arguing he was too busy buying crack when the first victim was attacked at knife point, and that the second victim was his lover.
“We was intimate a couple of times,” John Hamlett told jurors, describing the woman as just one member of his interstate harem of sugar mommas.
No problem that at the time in 2006, the victim was a young, attractive psychology student and he was admittedly “on crack,” unemployed and a registered violent sex offender.
“I had no problem getting things from women,” he boasted under questioning from his lawyer, Seema Iyer.
It was the trial’s latest grotesque display. Hamlett had left jurors looking disgusted last week as he cross-examined the second victim personally – asking such questions as “I forced you to have oral sex, right?”
