GALLOP POLL: ‘SUBPRIME’ HORSE IN THE MONEY

Fear of the subprime-loan mess is causing a meltdown on Wall Street, but apparently the investors out at Aqueduct aren’t as worried.

In fact, cheers rang out at the Queens horse track Thursday when a horse named “Subprime” defied her troubled name and won the ninth race.

“She was great. Her stock was really up,” said Richard Migliore, the jockey who rode the 2-year-old filly to victory. “She won very easily.”

There was so much investor confidence in Subprime that she ran as favorite. A $2 bet on her paid $6.30.

“A friend of mine gave me the money and said just bet the heck out of that horse; look at the name,” said Leo Lombardi, a 48-year-old furniture distributor who won $700 on the race. “The name says it all, Subprime.”

The horse is owned by Virginia businessman and horse breeder Edward Evans.

She comes from quite a financial bloodline. She was sired by a horse named High Yield.

The one-mile race was the first win in three for the filly.
