METAL DETECTOR FLUNKS

Stuyvesant HS’s bid to install metal detectors as a cheating deterrent has been nixed, The Post has learned.

Principal Stanley Teitel confirmed yesterday that he had asked the Department of Education for permission to temporarily install roving scanners next month at the elite school in Battery Park City.

The request came amid concerns that students could cheat on exams using their cellphones.

Department of Education officials said the NYPD was in charge of the scanning program, which was begun in 2006 as a way to deter kids from bringing weapons to school.

Police officials did not respond to a request for comment.
