DOGFIGHT CUR AWOL AT COURT

A man who ran a dogfighting ring out of an uptown basement – and confessed to using treadmills and live chickens to train the vicious canines – is looking at seven years in prison after failing to appear for sentencing yesterday.

That’s one year for each of the battle-scarred pit bulls confiscated from the fugitive dog abuser, Abel Hernandez Taveras, who pleaded guilty last month to raising and fighting them in a blood-splattered basement on Nagle Avenue in Inwood.

Had the 24-year-old turned himself in yesterday, he’d have gone to prison for three to four years, for training the dogs and setting up the fights, along with the top charge of burglary, for occupying the basement illegally.
