FIRE AT MT. SINAI

A blaze erupted in a second-floor mechanical room at Mount Sinai Hospital last night, filling an emergency room with thick, choking smoke and forcing officials to temporarily move 600 patients to other parts of the complex.

Six firefighters suffered minor injuries, but no patients or hospital staffers were hurt.

The fire started at 6:30 p.m. and was under control two hours later.

A hospital spokesman did not return calls.
