GUARDS INDICTED IN RIKERS DEATH

Three guards and 12 inmates have been indicted in the beating death of an 18-year-old prisoner at Rikers Island.

Correction Officers Michael McKie and Khalid Nelson are charged with enterprise corruption for allegedly letting prisoners run a cellblock and beat up fellow inmates. The third guard, Denise Albright, is charged with conspiracy.

Bronx DA Robert Johnson said the scheme, called “the Program,” made the guards’ jobs easier and allowed the chosen inmates, called “the Team,” to extort property from other inmates.

Christopher Robinson, arrested for allegedly violating parole, was found dead on Oct. 18. Three inmates beat him after he refused to get with “the Program.” His mother is suing the city for $20 million.
