SCOUT COOKIES ON DIET

Blame it on dough – the number of Girl Scout Thin Mints in a box will be thinner this year.

Due to the higher cost of baking ingredients, there will be “just a couple of cookies less” per box of Thin Mints, Do-Si-Dos and Tagalongs, said Michelle Tompkins, spokeswoman for the Girl Scouts of the USA.

The Lemon Chalet Cremes were “resized”; that is, they’re smaller, she said.

There were no changes made to the other varieties of cookies, the spokeswoman said.

“The cost of baking cookies is higher than it was a year ago,” she said. “Flour prices have increased more than 30 percent, baking oils are up between 40 percent and 180 percent, cocoa is up by at least 20 percent, and the cost of transportation are up.”

“Our bakers decided to reduce the weight rather than asking customers to pay more,” she said.
