YANKS ON THE MOVE

The Yankees are making another big offseason move, but this one doesn’t involve a player.

Employees at the old Yankee Stadium yesterday began transferring plastic crates with office materials onto a truck headed across the street to the team’s new $1.5 billion home. Included in the move were the team’s 1977 and 2000 world championship trophies, which were carried across the street by hand.

Come Monday morning the Yankees’ front office is scheduled to begin conducting business from the new stadium, but the old ballpark isn’t officially dead yet: the ticket office, switchboard operations and clubhouse staff will remain for about another month.

The Yankees will unveil the new stadium on April 3 and 4 with a pair of exhibition games against the Cubs.
