GILLIBRAND FOR SENATE: SMART PICK FOR NY?

Good luck to Kirsten Gillibrand (“One Farce Ends,” Editorial, Jan. 24).

From all accounts, she is not factually impaired, is not a carpetbagger and her wardrobe is not restricted to pantsuits.

During these difficult times, we don’t need on-the-job training again.

Gov. Paterson had an array of talented, experienced people to choose from. Instead, he seems to have gone with this modern-day Annie Oakley.

Gillibrand is an excellent choice for US senator. Paterson is demonstrating that the Democratic Party is truly a big tent with diversity.

As a Democrat with liberal-left thinking, I know those with other views have merit.

Under President Reagan, there were moderate and liberal Republicans who worked together. Today, they have one thought and narrow ideology and have lost the White House, Congress, state legislatures and so on.

Gillibrand will do a great job and will be an exciting, dynamic candidate in 2010.

Well done, Paterson.

It’s pretty obvious that Paterson has chosen under-experienced Gillibrand to be our new senator because he felt the seat should be filled by a woman.

This from the same party that just backed a freshman senator for president because it felt it was about time the office were held by an African-American.

According to all my liberal friends, the Republicans are supposed to be the racists and the sexists here. I thought the goal was to choose the best person for the job, regardless of sex and race, not because of it.

Oh, great. Non-elected Paterson is now putting a non-elected person into office as the US senator from New York. The Democratic dream has come true.

The democratic process in New York state is now an abysmal failure.

Such hypocrisy from The Post.

You complain that Gillibrand has only two years of legislative experience while your candidate, Caroline Kennedy, had none.

Actually, Gillibrand is quite a rarity; she’s a Democrat with sanity.

New Yorkers should be appalled by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy’s opposition to Gillibrand’s appointment to the Senate.

Gillibrand has been a longstanding supporter of the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms, a position that is shared by President Obama, Paterson and Sen. Chuck Schumer.

New Yorkers would not stand for a senator who did not respect the First Amendment, and we shouldn’t stand for a congresswoman that does not respect the Second.

The Democratic leadership should immediately censure McCarthy for her remarks.

Kudos to Paterson for his brilliant selection of Gillibrand.

His selection not only offers regional diversity to New York’s Senate representation, but also introduces us to someone clearly more intelligent and creative than the typical robotic ideologues who tend to represent the Democratic Party.

She will be a perfect political soulmate for our new president.
