‘69 METS WILL BE MEN ABOUT TOWN

The Mets’ 1969 World Championship is almost 40 years gone, but far from forgotten. And the men who made it happen will be coming to town to bask in the nostalgia.

On Feb. 3 at the Grand Hyatt, Ron Swoboda will accept the Thurman Munson Award on behalf of the 40th anniversary of his Mets championship team.

He will be joined by co-right fielder Art Shamsky, shortstop Buddy Harrelson, first baseman Eddie Kranepool, third baseman Ed Charles, Maxene Agee, the widow of center fielder Tommie Agee, and Joan Hodges, the wife of the late manager Gil Hodges, and Gil’s son, Gil Hodges, Jr.

Also receiving Thurmans will be the Yankees’ Johnny Damon, the Mets’ Carlos Beltran, the Giants’ David Tyree, the Knicks’ Allan Houston, and Olympic swimmer Dara Torres. For tickets call (212) 249-6188.

The following afternoon, Gallagher’s Steak House will salute the 1969 championship seasons of the Mets, Jets and Knicks.

The entire above Mets group, with the exception of Charles, will be on hand at a benefit for the American Heart Association, joined by Super Bowl III Jets Emerson Boozer and Dave Herman.

A $75 ticket includes a three-course power lunch, an autographed copy of Shamsky’s “The Magnificent Seasons,” which chronicles the three teams, a signed photograph by Swoboda, and a donation to the American Heart Assocation.

Gallagher’s will be unveiling a permanent photo gallery in honor of the ’69 heroes, including pictures from the New York Post archives. For reservations call (212) 245 5336.

Finally, at 7 that evening, Swoboda, Shamsky and Harrelson head to Empire City Casino for a Hot Stove League question-and-answer and autograph session – “40 Amazin’ Years” – chatting with fans about the big plays and big days of 1969. Admission is free for the two-hour program at the Entertainment Lounge in Empire’s Gotham Palace.
