LUCK BY CHANCE

A sort of “Hooray for Bollywood,” India’s affectionate comedy-drama-musical “Luck by Chance” asks the question: Can two cute youngsters make a living as actors in the Hindi film industry?

Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma play the 20-something lovers looking for a break in a movie that is less a spoof than an affectionate homage. The behind-the-scenes look at the world’s largest film industry is gently humorous but almost totally lacking in the cynicism, self-hatred and ennui that characterizes inside-Hollywood flicks.

Bursting with the usual colorful pop music numbers and lighter-than-a-soap-bubble quandaries, the film is a typical Bollywood entry, not likely to win over many new converts.
