Silicon Valley is abuzz with reports that the next-generation iPhone will hit shelves this summer – with the ability to be a full-fledged games platform.
While there is no timetable for the release of the so-called iPhone 3 – or any comment from Apple – the current iPhone 3G debuted last summer, about one year after the original first went on sale.
There is the chance that the next upgrade of the iPhone will include enhanced graphics – allowing users to play games that feature 3-D graphics.
“I would look forward to improvements in the device as a gaming platform,” Bart Decrem, CEO of Tapulous, developer of the hit “Tap Tap Revenge” iPhone game, told Wired.-com’s Gadget Lab blog.
Whispers first started bouncing around last week after techies unscrambled Apple software updates to uncover mentions of an “iPhone, 2,1” in the code. The iPhone 3G is called “iPhone 1,2,” while the original iPhone was called “iPhone 1,1.”
