Holy hornet’s nest, it’s Gov. Batman.
Following in the footsteps of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, actor Val Kilmer said he is pondering running for governor of New Mexico next year.
“I’m just looking for ways to be contributive,” Kilmer told The Associated Press. “And if that ends up being where I can make a substantial contribution, then I’ll run.”
But there’s no decision yet.
“It’s really day to day,” said Kilmer, 49, who in 1995 played the superhero in “Batman Forever.”
Kilmer grew up in Los Angeles, but has called New Mexico home for more than two decades. He’s currently registered as a Democrat and said he cast a ballot for President Obama from Bulgaria, where he was filming a movie.
A Kilmer candidacy would throw a monkey wrench into the state’s well-oiled Democratic machine of Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, who’s already running for the job.
Two-term Democrat Bill Richardson, the state’s current governor, will be forced from office due to term limits.
“If I run, I’m going to be the next governor,” Kilmer predicted.
