HOSP DEATH SPURS REFORM

Kings County Hospital “failed” a psychiatric patient who died after collapsing, ignored, in the emergency room – and the facility is undergoing a major overhaul, a top city health official said yesterday.

“We can and will continue to learn from our mistakes,” Health and Hospitals Corp. President Alan Aviles said yesterday of the death last June of Esmin Green.

Reforms at the Brooklyn hospital include new leadership, more security cameras, 200 more workers and new protocols to stem emergency room overcrowding.

Green died in the psychiatric emergency room after she was ignored by employees for 24 hours.

The US Justice Department also issued a report criticizing Kings County.
