BRONX SAMARITAN SLAIN

A Bronx student was fatally shot after trying to break up a bodega fight, cops and store workers said yesterday.

Joseph Vega, 21, a Bronx Community College student, walked into the scuffle when he stopped for a sandwich at the Skyline Deli on Burnside Avenue just after 9 p.m. Monday.

“He tried to break it up, then two store workers stepped in and dealt with it,” said deli staffer Steven Zindani.

“He was just standing at the counter when this guy walks in the door, puts a gun in his back and shoots. The guy with the gun hadn’t even been involved in the fight.”

Cops said the gunman then opened fire on a second victim outside the store. That man was in serious but stable condition in St. Barnabas Hospital.

The alleged shooter, Javier Roman, of West 179th Street in The Bronx, surrended to cops four hours later.
