The bar bouncer accused of murdering John Jay College student Imette St. Guillen is afraid to eat because inmates and guards at the Westchester prison where he’s housed have threatened to put urine or feces in his food, his lawyer said at a hearing today.
In fact, Darryl Littlejohn, 44, is about 10 pound littler than normal, thanks to his recent fear of meals, said lawyer Joyce David.
“He’s been threatened in jail that his food’s going to be poisoned,” said David. “He’s lost a lot of weight. He’s afraid.”
David said she’ll seek an order requiring state prison officials at the Downstate Correctional Center to prevent any inmates from participating in the preparation of her client’s meals.
Littlejohn is serving a 25-years-to-life sentence for the abduction of a York College student in Queens in 2005. He faces another life sentence if convicted on charges he kidnapped, raped and murdered Imette St. Guillen, a student at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, in 2006.
Littlejohn was working as a bouncer at the now-shuttered SoHo bar, The Falls, where St. Guillen was last seen alive. Her body was found in a weed-choked area of the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn.
State prison officials said they had no record of complaints from Littlejohn regarding threats.
“If the matter is brought to our attention we will take the matter seriously and take whatever measures are necessary to ensure his safety while incarcerated for the next 25 years — at least,” said spokeswoman Linda Foglia.
David said her client, who has spend much of his life behind bars, was not prone to hysteria and exaggeration.
“He’s not paranoid,” she said. “He’s a level-headed guy.”
