HOMELAND SECURITY CHIEF: NYC A PRIORITY

Homeland Security boss Janet Napolitano visited New York yesterday to meet Mayor Bloomberg, top police officials and some of the heroes of Flight 1549.

Asked at a City Hall news conference about how the Obama administration would allocate Homeland Security funding, Napolitano said she’ll keep in mind that New York was one of the cities attacked on Sept. 11.

That New York was a terror target “is certainly going to be underlying my assessments in what decisions are going to be made,” she said.

“We need to be giving money based on really very vigorous risks and thinking about what the targets are,” she said.

Napolitano also met with NY Waterway crews and other rescuers who plucked the 155 passengers and crew of US Airways Flight 1549 from the Hudson River after their plane ditched on Jan. 15.

During a ceremony at the West 39th Street ferry terminal, the crews received Coast Guard commendations for their successful rescue.
