Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who’s been threatened with a primary battle from her left ever since Gov. Paterson tapped her to be New York’s junior senator, got a big boost yesterday in the form of Bill Clinton’s endorsement.
The ex-president, whose wife, Hillary, is the last person elected to the seat, is supporting Gillibrand, Bill Clinton’s spokesman, Matt McKenna, confirmed.
Gillibrand has had some struggles since Paterson picked her.
They have included criticism over stances that matched her conservative-leaning congressional district but not the left-leaning state.
Bill Clinton’s support for Gillibrand emerged amid word that he is hosting a fund-raiser for her on March 11.
