LINCOLN STAR QUIET

Lance Stephenson isn’t ready to announce where he’s going to college in the fall, but he already has made up his mind.

“I decided about a week ago,” the Lincoln senior said yesterday at a press conference for Saturday’s PSAL title game at Madison Square Garden. The Railsplitters are looking for their fourth straight championship, this time against JFK.

“I already know where I’m going. This is not the right place [to make an announcement].”

The 6-foot-5 swingman had said that he would make his decision known after the title game on Saturday, but yesterday retreated from that.

“If I win, I’ll be too excited to talk about that, and if I lose I’m gonna be too mad,” Stephenson said.

Instead, he’ll wait until the McDonald’s All-American Game on April 1 in Miami. Stephenson said he still is talking to coaches from St. John’s, Kansas and Maryland because “maybe I could change my mind.” But he added: “I think I’m set.”

St. John’s is once again holding its breath, hoping that a star local product decides to stay home. Coach Norm Roberts and his staff have gone hard after Stephenson.
